Le Catcher Review
Hacksaw Gaming presents yet another entry in the Le slot series featuring Smokey the Raccoon. Although it's only been a few years since this franchise debuted with Le Bandit, it has already grown into a catalogue of more than 10 releases. The studio has been seriously churning them out at a steady pace lately, and the reason is simple – players love these slots. However, most of them are merely reskins and follow a familiar pattern, where the core formula stays largely intact, and the main changes come down to the visual wrapping. Is that the case with the Le Catcher slot machine? Let’s find out.
This time, Hacksaw sends Smokey on a fishing trip on a quiet lake. Wait a second... I've seen this before. Le Fisherman, is that you? Deja vu hits hard here. You know, Le Catcher isn’t just a reskin in the usual sense, where developers at least come up with a different theme – it’s practically Le Fisherman with the lights turned down. The daytime backdrop in the base game is gone, the moon is out, and… that’s basically it.

That’s where the differences end. It’s the exact same formula, repeated with minimal effort to disguise it. And so we’re dealing with identical rules and a mathematical profile. What we have is a 6x5 slot built on the Cluster Pays system. Symbols pay out from 5 or more, with bigger prizes awarded for combinations of 12+. The Le Catcher game also comes with an advanced tumbling mechanic called Super Cascades. When a win occurs, all regular symbols of matching type that were a part of the winning combo are removed from the reels. Then, new ones drop in and fill the blanks. If another win hits, the process keeps going.
Math-wise, Le Catcher lands in a fairly standard sweet spot for the Le series. The default RTP is set to 96.33%, paired with medium volatility and a stated hit rate of 42%, so, in theory, you should be seeing some kind of return on a pretty regular basis. Of course, a lot of those wins will be small-to-mid-sized chain reactions, while big hits usually come from the main reveal mechanic. The headline number is decent as well. Le Catcher can pay up to 15,000x the stake, so there’s enough bite when things go your way. Whether you actually get anywhere near that cap is another story, but at least on paper, the potential is there.
Bonuses & Special Features
Like the other Le titles, Le Catcher revolves around the series’ trademark reveal mechanic, which is where most of the momentum comes from. On top of that core loop, the slot packs three different bonus rounds, each built around the same familiar foundation but with its own twist on how the feature plays out. And if you don’t feel like waiting for the action to show up naturally, there’s also a loaded menu of bonus bets and bonus buys that lets you jump straight into specific modes.
Golden Squares – Reveal Mechanic
The core trick in Le Catcher is the Golden Squares system. Whenever a win hits, the squares behind the winning symbols get marked as Golden Squares. If a Rainbow symbol lands, it activates those Golden Squares after all cascades have finished, revealing Special symbols underneath. An Epic Rainbow works the same way, but it reveals Special symbols on every position on the grid.

Once the reveals are done, the round resolves in a fixed chain: revealed multipliers apply first, then Collect-style symbols gather values. After all actions finish, the revealed values are totalled and paid. Special symbols include the following:
- Bronze Coin – have values of 0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x
- Silver Coin – have values of 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x
- Gold Coin – have values of 25x, 50x, 100x
- Diamond Coin – have values of 150x, 250x, 500x
- Green Clover – multiplies symbol values on adjacent squares by x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, or x20.
- Gold Clover – multiplies symbol values across the entire grid by up to x20.
- Bucket – collects all adjacent symbol values and stores the total.
- Global Bucket – collects values from all symbols on the grid.
Bonus Game – On Thin Ice
On Thin Ice is the standard Free Spins round in Le Catcher. It triggers with 3 Scatter symbols and awards 10 free spins. The feature keeps the base mechanics, but Golden Squares become progressive and stay on the grid until a Rainbow (or Epic Rainbow) activates them. The round also introduces the Big Catch Bar – every time an FS symbol lands during the bonus, the bar moves one step forward.

The Big Catch Bar starts at Level 0, where Rainbow symbols behave normally. After every 5th FS symbol that lands, you reach a new level, and each level-up adds +5 free spins. Once a Rainbow has activated the Golden Squares, it transforms into an extra Special symbol based on your current level:
- Level 1 – Rainbow turns into a Green Clover.
- Level 2 – Rainbow turns into a Global Bucket.
- Level 3 – Rainbow turns into a Gold Clover.
- Level 4 – a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow is guaranteed on every free spin, and after activation it turns into a Gold Clover.
Bonus Game – Slippery When Wet
Slippery When Wet triggers with 4 FS Scatter symbols and also starts with 10 free spins. It uses the same On Thin Ice setup, but the Golden Squares are even stickier – they remain on the grid throughout the bonus, even after being activated by a Rainbow symbol. One more change is that the minimum Coin value in this mode is 1x.
Hidden Epic Bonus – Smokey Under Water
This is the top Free Spins mode, triggered by landing 5 FS Scatter symbols. It keeps the Slippery When Wet rules, but the Big Catch Bar starts at Level 4 right away and stays there for the entire bonus. FS symbols cannot land in this bonus.
Bonus Buy Menu
Hacksaw usually stuffs its games with a wide range of bonus bets and bonus buy options, and the Le Catcher slot is no exception.
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: 3x the bet per spin – each spin is 5x more likely to trigger a bonus game. High volatility and 96.33% RTP.
- Rainbow Trout FeatureSpins: 50x bet per spin – each spin guarantees at least 1 win and guarantees that a Rainbow or Epic Rainbow lands, with a minimum Coin value of 1x. FS symbols cannot land in this mode. High volatility and 96.34% RTP.
- Rainbow Epic Drop FeatureSpins: 500x the bet per spin – each spin guarantees an Epic Rainbow landing, with a minimum Coin value of 1x. FS symbols cannot land in this mode. Very high volatility and 96.28% RTP.
- On Thin Ice: 60x the bet – enters bonus round immediately. Medium volatility and 96.31% RTP.
- Slippery When Wet: 250x the bet – enters bonus round immediately. High volatility and 96.25% RTP.
Le Catcher Free Play
Before committing real money, it makes sense to give Le Catcher a few spins in demo mode – especially if you’re not familiar with the Le series yet. This game has its own rhythm, and the reveal mechanic can feel confusing at first if you don’t know what you’re looking for. A demo run lets you get comfortable with the Cluster Pays flow, see how Super Cascades behave, and figure out whether this format is your kind of thing.
The good news is that you can play Le Catcher demo right on SlotCatalog with no strings attached. There’s no need to create an account, download anything, or go through extra steps – just open the game and test it at your own pace.
Pros And Cons Of Le Catcher Slot
Pros
- Proven Le-series formula
- Cluster Pays and Super Cascades
- Powerful reveal mechanic
- Three Free Spins modes
- High winning potential
Cons
- Super lazy reskin
Final Thoughts
Is Le Catcher a bad slot? Not really. Le Fisherman is arguably the most popular entry in the series, and this is essentially the same game under a different name. The only noticeable change is the nighttime backdrop in the base game, plus the fact that it’s exclusive to Stake, at least at the time of writing.
Still, it’s hard not to be a bit disappointed. Hacksaw barely changed anything at all, and it ends up feeling like the laziest reskin I’ve seen in a while. Or could you even call it a reskin if the theme is the same?
Anyway, if you already like the Le formula, you’ll get the exact same loop again. If you were hoping for anything fresh, Le Catcher is entirely skippable.
